Community Leadership
The attorneys of AP&S have always had a leadership role in local, regional and national organizations, and the firm encourages all of its attorneys and professionals to give back to the communities where they live and work through active volunteer involvement. Inspired to make a difference, our attorneys pursue a wide range of interests in their volunteer work and are actively involved on the boards or in leadership positions of various professional, charitable and civic organizations.

Pro Bono
The firm’s generous spirit also manifests itself in our commitment to ensuring equal justice under the law regardless of financial resources. The firm supports R.I. Legal Services and actively provides pro bono services through local bar associations such as the Rhode Island Bar Association and Foundation, Mass Women’s Bar Foundation Family Law Project for Battered Women, the Women’s Bar Association of Boston, the New Hampshire Bar Association, as well as other nonprofit groups. Several of our partners have served as president and in other volunteer leadership positions for these organizations. The firm also provides pro bono services in both complex and routine proceedings as part of its commitment to ensuring equal justice under the laws regardless of financial resources and have provided hundreds of hours of free legal services as members of the Volunteer Lawyers Program.
Some of our attorneys have been honored for their outstanding commitment to equal justice, including the Rhode Island Legal Services Equal Justice Award; the Rhode Island Bar Association’s Dorothy Lohmann Community Service Award, the Bar’s Ralph B. Semonoff Award for civility, professionalism and advocacy and the Bar’s Pro Bono Publico Award; and the New Hampshire Bar Association’s Distinguished Service to the Profession Award.
In an effort to nurture urban business development, AP&S partners with the Minority Investment Development Corporation and the R.I. Coalition for Minority Investments to offer pro bono legal services for business formations to minority-owned enterprises.
