Etnias Magazine sponsored the 2nd Annual Ethnic Business Awards on Sunday, October 19, 2014. Adler Pollock & Sheehan was the recipient of the “2014 Diversity Champion Award” for being a leader in fostering diversity in the workplace, offering opportunities for the advancement of women and attorneys of color and for the creation of its annual diversity scholarship for a minority student entering his/her first year of law school. The Ethnic Business Awards is an event that highlights the exemplary contributions and leadership of the business community to Rhode Island’s Ethnic Minority Groups.
Rob Stolzman, Chair of the Diversity Committee at AP&S, accepted the award. Below are his words of acknowledgment, followed by a translation into Spanish.
Adler Pollock & Sheehan is honored to be recognized for advancing ethnic and cultural diversity in our profession and for our community. It may be hard for some of you to believe, but when Walter Adler, Bernie Pollock and Bill Sheehan founded the firm in 1960, two Jews and an Irish Catholic practicing business law together was considered ethnically diverse in Rhode Island. Look how far we have come – but we have far to go. Ethnic and cultural diversity means more than mere tolerance or an absence of bigotry. We must embrace what every culture and ethnicity has to offer: values, history, sensitivities and human insights, so that our commercial, civic and cultural community is richer and, yes, better.
Es un gran honor recibir reconocimiento por los esfuerzos de nuestra firma de abogados para avanzar Ia diversidad étnica y cultural en nuestra profesión y , en nuestra comunidad de Providence. Nuestra firma fue fundada en 1960 por 3 abogados – dos señores judíos y un señor que era irlandés y católico. Que los tres señores trabajaban y practicaban la ley juntos – esto era el grado de diversidad en aquellos tiempos.
