Moten, 2008-51-C.A.<\/a>, the Rhode Island Supreme Court held that the defendant\u2019s counsel\u2019s utterance of the word \u201cObjection\u201d twice, without articulating the basis for that objection, was insufficient to preserve the issue for appeal.<\/p>\n<p>In so doing, the Court cautioned that \u201c\u2018a general objection is not sufficient to preserve an issue for appellate review; rather, assignments of error must be set forth <i>with sufficient particularity<\/i> to call the trial justice\u2019s attention to the basis of the objection.\u2019\u201d \u00a0<i>Id<\/i>. at 10 (quoting <i>United Station Associates v. Rossi<\/i>, 862 A.2d 185, 192 (R.I. 2004)).\u00a0 Thus, an objection without any accompanying explanation is insufficient to preserve an issue on appeal.\u00a0 <i>Id<\/i>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Applying the raise or waive rule in State v.
