John A. Tarantino, a shareholder and president of the law firm of Adler Pollock & Sheehan P.C., has been recognized for his professional achievements by the Rhode Island Bar Association as this year’s recipient of the Ralph P. Semonoff Award for Professionalism. He was honored at the Bar Association’s Annual Dinner on June 22nd at the Rhode Island Convention Center. The award is given to an attorney who advance the calling of professional practice through leadership, high standards of integrity, commitment and dedication. The award is named for past Bar Association President, Ralph P. Semonoff, who championed the law as a high calling, justice as a defendable right, and public service as the beacon of a life’s work.
Mr. Tarantino’s started his successful career at the firm over 25 years ago as a summer clerk and now serves as president of the firm and a member of the Litigation Group. Over the years, he has served as lead defense counsel in a number of high profile cases, including the landmark lead paint litigation case in Rhode Island. He has successfully represented Fortune 100 and 500 companies both nationally and internationally. Additionally, Mr. Tarantino has tried and argued other precedent-setting cases in state and federal trial courts, and courts of appeal on complex issues of constitutional law, antitrust, intellectual property, product liability, toxic tort and employment law.
He is the recipient of numerous other honors, both national and international, in recognition of the outstanding quality, service and expertise of his legal work. In 2002, Lawyers Weekly USA named Mr. Tarantino among the top ten attorneys in the nation as “Lawyer of the Year.” Last year he was named as “Lawyer of the Year” by Rhode Island Lawyers Weekly, and by Lawdragon Magazine as “The 500 Leading Lawyers in America.” This year, Lawdragon Magazine once again recognized him with his inclusion in “The 500 Leading Litigators in America.” He was honored last month by Boston College Law School’s Alumni Award. Mr. Tarantino is a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and fellow of the International Academy of Trial Lawyers.
