The AP&S Summer Associate Program offers rising 3L law students the opportunity to gain valuable legal experience, along with a first-hand understanding of working at our firm.

Our Summer Associate Program typically runs for 10 weeks during the months of June to August and is based in our Providence office. Participants will be integrated into our team and work alongside experienced attorneys on a variety of legal matters. The program is structured to offer a balance of work, learning, and networking opportunities. Summer associates receive a wide variety of assignments from AP&S attorneys, as well as participate in firm social events such as lunches, dinners, and other social outings to get to know both the practice areas and firm attorneys.

Key Features

Practice Areas: Summer associates will have the chance to explore different areas of law, such as corporate, litigation, real estate, and health care. While summer associates will work in a variety of practice areas, they also may express an interest to receive assignments from a particular group. By offering experiences in numerous specialties, AP&S enables summer associates to discover their particular interests and strengths while also getting to know attorneys throughout the firm.

  • Hands-On Experience: Summer associates will engage in meaningful and challenging work, including legal research, drafting documents, attending client meetings, and observing court proceedings. These assignments will provide summer associates with valuable insight as to the types of work performed by associates, while also honing their legal skills
  • Mentorship: Each summer associate is paired with both an associate and shareholder mentor. These mentors provide guidance, feedback, and support throughout the program. Mentors are dedicated to helping associates navigate their position and develop their professional skills.
  • Networking Opportunities: We host various social events and networking sessions with partners, associates, and alumni, helping participants build valuable connections in the legal community. In the past, these events have included, for example, a farm tour and meal at Matunuck Oyster Bar, kayaking, Top Golf, and the annual AP&S summer party, among others.
