AP&S, Citizens, and United Way of RI Team Up for Pro Bono Day

On Thursday, May 2, 2024, Adler Pollock & Sheehan, Citizens, and the United Way of Rhode Island hosted a Pro Bono Day, an event to provide legal assistance to local nonprofits, led by Geoffrey Millsom, Shareholder and Chair of the AP&S Banking and Finance Group and Walter Conroy, EVP and Deputy General Counsel of Citizens.

Attorneys and legal professionals at AP&S and Citizens Bank volunteered to spend the afternoon meeting one-on-one with local nonprofits that were paired with us by the United Way and Citizens.

Kathryn Windsor, Shareholder and Chair of the AP&S Tax Group, started the day with a presentation and training session for the volunteers to review questions and problems that may arise when reviewing the nonprofits bylaws. Bylaws are the foundation of any nonprofit, dictating how the organization operates, makes decisions, and governs its members. These documents are essential for ensuring clarity, compliance with the law, and effectiveness in pursuing their missions.  Moreover, the focus on assisting nonprofits with their bylaws during the pro bono day goes beyond immediate legal needs, empowering these organizations to be more sustainable and impactful in the long run.

AP&S was thrilled to have the collaboration of our partners, Citizens and the United Way of Rhode Island involved in this initiative, which we plan to make an annual event.

A big thank you to all the volunteers who were able to provide valuable information to these nonprofits that provide much needed services to Rhode Islanders.
