AP&S Receives EBC’s John A.S. McGlennon Award for Corporate Leadership in Recognition for its Legal Support Provided to the Narragansett Bay Commission’s Net Zero Renewable Energy Program

This award, created by the Environmental Business Council (“EBC”) in 1994, is presented to a public or private corporation and its professional services support team, in recognition of their outstanding corporate leadership and contribution to the quality of the environment in New England.  This award was presented this year, on June 8, 2023, at the EBC’s Annual Award Celebration, in Boston, Massachusetts.

This award recognizes companies, organizations and individuals for outstanding accomplishment in environmental management, energy resources and management, and in support of programs to address climate change.  Alan Shoer was proud to share the podium in recognition of AP&S’ legal support to the Narragansett Bay Commission’s (“NBC’s”) Net-Zero Renewable Energy Program.  Through this program, NBC is able to stabilize electric costs and sewer rates and demonstrate to other agencies the efficacy of investing in renewable energy-generating assets.  NBC has committed to obtaining all of its power from sustainable sources before 2025 and has already invested $38 million in a diverse array of renewable generating assets, including onshore wind turbines, solar arrays, and an anaerobic digester biogas project. AP&S supported this project with legal advice, permitting support, and representation through project financings, leases, transactional and contract negotiations and closings.

In addition to renewable energy, NBC is also investing in electric vehicles and an aggressive energy efficiency program. NBC’s Net-Zero Renewable Energy Program minimizes risk, saves money, generates revenue from the sale of renewable energy credits, and helps stabilize sewer rates paid by its residential and business customers. The portfolio of renewable energy generating projects and energy efficiency programs results in great economic and environmental benefits to Rhode Island and the region.
