Overview

AP&S’ Maritime group combines the experience and skill sets of our attorneys from our marine, corporate, civil, land use, tax and other discrete practices to assist clients in the Ocean State and beyond navigate all aspects of marine regulation, litigation and development. Our team has experience representing marinas, shipyards, vessel owners and operators, shippers, waterfront developers, marine insurers and others who require intelligent, efficient and creative counsel to achieve their goals and effectively resolve claims.

In addition to their legal acumen, our attorneys bring a breadth of practical experience to bear, including thousands of miles at sea on various recreational and commercial vessels, other work on vessels and at waterfront businesses, and include counsel with professional licenses as well as the Proctor in Admiralty designation. This experience ensures our team can efficiently advise clients on a wide range of matters, from traditional maritime claims to pragmatic business advice and coastal permitting and development.

  • Representation of a vessel owner in a Rule C vessel arrest resulting in rapid release of vessel and favorable negotiated resolution.
  • Negotiation and execution of contract for a Rhode Island-based boatbuilder to supply hulls for an internationally recognized brand.
  • Representation of custom composites manufacturer for development of novel marine technologies for customer, including resolution of intellectual property rights.
  • Representation of property owner subject to Rule F limitation of liability petition following vessel casualty resulting in settlement above the limitation fund.
  • Permitting removal, redesign and wholesale replacement of dock system for prominent yacht club.
  • Resolution of notices of violation issued by Coastal Resources Management Council in favor of waterfront homeowner, resulting in structural shoreline protection.
