John Tarantino was interviewed regarding the firm’s vision for promoting diversity within the legal profession.
The newly established AP&S Diversity Scholarship was featured in the Hearsay column of the February 19, 2007, edition of the Rhode Island Lawyers Weekly. This year, the firm began an initiative aimed at increasing the pool of minority lawyers in Rhode Island and Massachusetts through the creation of a $10,000 scholarship to be awarded annually to a minority student starting his or her first year of law school. The firm’s Diversity Committee is currently working with area law schools and universities to promote the availability of the scholarship and to identify potential minority applicants. The application is available on the AP&S website and the deadline for submitting an application is June 1st.
Mr. Tarantino concluded the interview by encouraging other firms to join in this vision to promote diversity within the legal profession. “The clients we serve across the spectrum believe that diversity is important; it’s well past the time to make sure all the law firms do what they can to get qualified minority candidates. I hope this is something other firms will be challenged by or inspired by, and I certainly hope my colleagues in other firms can do a similar thing.”
