National Guard Praises R.I. Bar Association’s US Armed Forces Legal Services Project

Recently, Major General Kevin R. McBride, Adjutant General of the Rhode Island National Guard and Lieutenant Colonel Vivian Caruolo, Rhode Island National Guard Staff Judge Advocate presented the R.I. Bar Association’s United States Armed Forces Services Project with the following commendation: 

“On behalf of the service members of the Rhode Island National Guard and other armed forces, veterans, and dependents, I would like to express their gratitude for the devotion to legal services for this community.  Your legal expertise and your selfless devotion to this class of citizens is exemplary.  Your sacrifice is a great credit to you, the legal profession, and the Rhode Island Bar Association.” 

The Bar’s unique United States Armed Forces Legal Services Project, initiated by Past Rhode Island Bar Association President Victoria M. Almeida, launched in late 2009, and directly administered by the Rhode Island Bar’s Public Services Department, is specifically designed to provide a wide range of civil law legal services and assistance to those serving in the military, veterans and their families.  Qualifying individuals include: active and reserve military personnel.  In addition to the commendation, the Rhode Island Bar Association was presented with an American Flag “flown with great honor and pride by our nation’s military forces” in Afghanistan on May 19, 2011, in honor of the Rhode Island Bar Association.
